Officials are giving away the helmets around the clock, seven days a week at the Command Desk at department headquarters, 31555 W. 11 Mile. To be given a helmet, recipients must show proof of Farmington Hills residency and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The department gave away more than 600 helmets in 2007.
