The DSO, Target and conductor Thomas Wilkins will return this summer to bring the annual, free, weekend outdoor concert series “Target Harmony in the Metroparks,” to Kensington, Metro Beach and Stony Creek Metroparks, Friday through Sunday, June 25-27.
The program titled “Love at First Sight” will feature favorites in classical and popular music including music by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Lerner & Leowe (My Fair Lady) and others. The scenic lakeside concerts take place Fri., June 25 at Kent Lake of Kensington Metropark, near Milford/Brighton; Sat., June 26 at Lake St. Clair of Metro Beach Metropark, near Mt. Clemens; and Sun., June 27 at Stony Creek Lake of Stony Creek Metropark, near Rochester. All performances begin at 8 p.m. The concerts are free, but regular vehicle entry charges still apply. A daily vehicle entry permit is $5; an annual pass is $25 or $15 for senior citizens.
Virginia born Maestro Thomas Wilkins is Music Director of the Omaha Symphony and Principal Guest Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He served as Resident Conductor of the Detroit Symphony from 2000-01 until the close of the 2008-09 season. Guest conducting engagements have included appearances with such ensembles as the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras, the symphonies of Dallas, Baltimore, Houston, Indianapolis and Oregon, the Louisville Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.
Located along the Huron and Clinton rivers, the Huron-Clinton Metroparks provide a natural oasis from urban and suburban life as well as year-round recreational activities and events.
