Guest Blogger Liz Parker is back from an advance screening of "Salt" with Angelina Jolie.
Is Angie still the queen of the "Bad A**" action movies? Read on to find out what Liz thinks...
I almost didn't get to see the screening of "Salt" because I won tickets from a marketing company but never received them in the mail. Luckily, a friend of mine had extra tickets, so I was able to attend. "Salt" is definitely one of the flashiest movies I've seen this year, but sometimes flashy can't always make up for lack of substance.
Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie, "Wanted") is an agent in the CIA, whose cover is that she works for a financial institution. She's married to Mike (August Diehl, "Inglorious Basterds") and has an overall happy life - until, one day, she is accused of being a Russian spy. She immediately goes on the run, presumably to make sure her husband is safe, and the CIA agents chase after her, though it's obvious that she can outrun, out-shoot, and evade them very easily. Her colleague, Ted (Liev Schreiber, "Repo Men"), insists she's innocent, but as they chase her from city to city, he begins to doubt himself.
I'd like to give more plot details but they would probably be spoilers, so I will refrain. The film moved very fast and had a ton of action scenes, which were great. Jolie is good in her part and so is Schreiber and the supporting cast. There were also a few very big twists that I did not see coming.
I would say Maybe see this movie. Yes, it was flashy, and yes, most of it was interesting, but it just didn't measure up to some of the other action movies I've seen this summer ("Knight and Day", for example). They definitely set up the movie for a sequel, and if I'm in the mood for an action movie, I might go see that, but overall, although it was very glitzy and moved incredibly fast, I thought it was a two-star movie. If you want to see an action movie or Angelina Jolie, go see "Salt," and you probably won't be disappointed; otherwise, choose a different film to watch.
Salt opens in theaters Friday, July 23, 2010.
