Here is a highlight of the FREE activities you can do this weekend in the metro Detroit area and beyond:

On Friday, the FREE Rockin' on the RiverFront Series continues with The Romantics.  Opening for The Romantics will be Steve Kostan with The Eddie Leighton Project.  So bring a chair and chill out for FREE on the wonderful Detroit River Front.

On Friday, Wayne State will have their weekly FREE Planetarium Show in the lower level of the Old Main Building on the corner of Cass and Warren. The show is called "Wonders of the Universe".

The much anticipated movie "Eat Pray Love" opens on Friday so be sure to read this movie review by guest blogger Liz Parker before you go.  And if you are going to see this movie at an Emagine theater, then remember to vote for Emagine in the Vote for the Best Contest and you can get $5 off a concession purchase of $5 or more.

This weekend, August 13-15, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day, American Express cardmembers will have the opportunity to attend golf clinics, receive full swing and putting lessons from PGA professionals, or simply kick back and watch the PGA Championship on plasma TVs while enjoying complimentary refreshments and Wi-Fi at the north end of Memorial Park, 31100 Woodward Ave., in Royal Oak. As an added bonus, all cardmembers can take advantage of one-on-one hitting lessons with PGA Professional Jay Williamson. The clinic with Williamson will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day of the event.

Get the kids ready on Saturday morning for the FREE Lowes Build and Grow Kids Clinic at 10am.  This time those lucky kids will be making a Beetle shaped bug box - so cute!

Business owners, take some time on Saturday to go to the Detroit Main Library to the  FREE Workshop: Keys to Starting a Franchise.  The workshop starts at 1pm.  Mark Cory, Franchise Placement Specialist, at FranNet Detroit will discuss important factors to consider when planning to purchase a franchise.

On Saturday is also the FREE Outdoor Concert at 12 Mile Crossing Novi featuring John Holk and the Sequins.  Bring a chair. a hat for shade and a smile for others as you sit and listen to some wonderful FREE live music.

Will you be near Sterling Heights on Saturday? Then stop by the FREE Kids Crafts at Lakeshore at 11am. Kids will be making a personalize license plate for their bike or scooter.

Does your child need a sports physical? Then go to the FREE Kids Health Fair sponsored by Metro Parent on Saturday at the Concentra Urgent Care location in Livonia. The will be Free Physicals, Giveaways, Music, and Crafts.

Does going green make you one happy camper? Then the Ferndale Green Cruise is just your thing.  There will be kids activities, a bike parade and more.  The event is this Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
