As useful as the original, just updated with new technology
I remember like it was yesterday when my son was a toddler and he watched Baby Einstein videos and played with Baby Einstein flashcards. He was totally memorized by the entire visual experience, and so was I. After the video was over, I would sit with him and we would use the flashcards to go over all the animals, toys, and places that he had just seen in the video.
Well video tapes are now in museums and technology has moved on to the smaller and better. So now, Baby Einstein videos and flash cards are available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad through an app called "My Baby Einstein".
"My Baby Einstein " contains Videos, Discovery Cards, a Memory book and Music features.
The Videos that come with the initial setup are 3 videos in the Baby Beethoven module and 3 videos for Baby Neptune module. Additional video modules can be purchased in the Apple Store for Baby Mozart, Baby Santa, Baby's First Moves, My First Signs, Lullaby Time, Wold Animal Adventure, and World Music.
Discovery Cards are flash cards that go with the videos. The initial setup comes with the Colors flash card module. Additional flash card modules can be purchased in the Apple Store for Animals, Nature, and the Seasons. I loved the "My Discovery Cards" feature because it allows you to make your own flash cards from the photos that are on your phone. This is great for tailoring the flash cards to meet your child's needs. I remember trying to teach my son all our relatives names. This option would have been great for teaching names because I could have taken a photo of each family member and made it into a Discovery Card with that person's name on the card. Then I could have made a game out of him learning their names.
The Memory Book allows you to create story slides with photos, text, and characters from the Baby Einstein videos. You can add as many slides as you want to the memory book to make your child a unique and one-of-a-kind story.
The Music feature turns the app into a music player for your child. The initial setup comes with a music sampler. The "Baby Einstein Definitive 100 Music" module can be purchased for an additional price in the Apple store.
If you are always on the go with your toddler, this Apple app is a great way to keep your child entertained and continue his or her learning. Just keep some headphone available if they are going to be listening to the videos or music in public as it might be disturbing to others.
When you buy this app, I would highly recommend pre-buying all the add-on modules with in to keep down trouble. The app comes with 2 sets of videos and 1 set of flash cards and there big BUY tags over the other video, flash card, and music options that don't come with the base app. When my son was two, the concept of delayed gratification was not part of his DNA, as I doubt it is for any toddler so removing all those BUY tags would probably be a good idea. Additional add-on videos, flash cards, and music range in price from 99 cents to $1.99 each.
The My Baby Einstein app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The app requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later. To purchase your own app, click here.
