REVIEW: Walk 4 Friendship a Total Success!

My son with Nikki Stephan from Identity PR & Bassie Shemtov Director of Friendship Circle
On Sunday, my son and I joined thousands of other metro Detroiters for the 5th annual Walk 4 Friendship in West Bloomfield. This 5k walk raises money for the Friendship Circle, an organization dedicated to providing help for special needs children and their families.

Audrey Pleasant, Shelia Glass, Beth Dzodin-Fuchs having fun
The Friendship Circle estimated that over 7000 participants would be part of the walk and I am pretty sure they met that goal if not exceeding it.  There were walkers everywhere on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. While waiting for the walk to start, I met a trio of friends who were having a ball (photo above). Audrey Pleasant from Dearborn Heights, Sheila Glass from Southfield, and Beth Dzodin-Fuchs from Lathrup Village were jamming to the pre-walk music and having a great time as was everyone at the event.

Detroit Red Wings player Kris Draper and his daughter
Busch's Fresh Food Market was on site to supply water and very tasty bananas and apples to the walkers.  Before the walk began, the crowd was addressed by a number of individuals including Kris Draper from the Detroit Red Wings.

I have been part of many 5K walks in the past, but nothing quite like this one. I forgot that West Bloomfield is hilly so this walk was up and down hills for an entire hour. By the time we got to the finish line, my legs no longer wanted to be part of my body and my son was ready to eat. There was plenty of pizza and salad for the hungry crowd and wonderful games and activities for the kids - and plenty of chairs for me to rest my legs.

We had a great time at the the Walk 4 Friendship and we will certainly do it again next year. It was a great event with a great goal and a great day.  Click on the following link to find out more about the Friendship Circle.

People were everywhere - a very large turn out!
Not your traditional race starting whistle!
Part of the walk was through neighborhoods..
Making Cotton Candy is a messy job, but someone's got to do it...
...and my son has to eat it!
There was even horseback riding for the kids.
We had a great time and cannot wait for next year!
