I blog to hopefully make a difference
This is my 5th and final challenge post in the SITS Girls Back to Blogging Event where bloggers are assigned one blogging challenge to complete each day over the next 5 days.
My first Back to Blogging Event Challenge was to upload the first post I ever wrote and if I want, rewrite it to make it better.
My Back to Blogging Event Challenge for day two was to upload a post that I wish more people had read.
My Back to Blogging Event Challenge for day three was to upload a post with a title that I am proud of.
My Back to Blogging Event Challenge for day four was to write a post about a woman who inspires me.
Today's Back to Blogging Event Challenge is to write about why I blog. Back a few years ago, a coworker of mine and his wife adopted a little girl from China. After they returned home, I would ask my coworker from time to time about seeing photos of his daughter. He would answer that I needed to go and check out the blog he and his wife had started about the adoption. I did not know what a blog was so it took me a while to finally go to the URL and check it out. I was amazed at what I found. The blog contained information and photos on their entire trip to China and stories on everything that had happened since they returned. I started thinking that blogging is really a great vehicle for getting out information on all types of topics.
Detroit has been suffering with major unemployment for years. People are really hurting and money is tight. I thought that blogging would be a great way to share freebies and deals that I had found with as many people as possible. I brainstormed some names and Free Is My Life just seemed to sum up my goal for the website. I started posting my finds and and when I started marketing my posts on Twitter, my blog really took off from there.
Some days, I don't feel like blogging. I get tired and irritated when things go wrong. But right when I am fed up, I get a letter or a tweet from a reader that makes my day. I've gotten notes from people who are unemployed and follow my blog everyday. I have been told by some readers that my blog is the first thing that they read in the morning when they get up. I get emails from people asking my opinion before they buy something. I have come to realize that folks are really benefiting from the information that I post. Through blogging, I really get to make a difference and that is why I blog.
