DECEMBER 13 – SUNRISE (1927) – In this morality tale subtitled “A Song of Two Humans,” a woman from the city seduces a farmer and encourages him to kill his wife so they may run away together. What follows is a tale of suspense, love and redemption. This silent film won the first Academy Award given for “Best Picture, Unique and Artistic Production.” Starring George O’Brien and Janet Gaynor. Directed by F.W. Murnau. (Not rated, 94 min.)
DECEMBER 20—TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE (2010) - Bella finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. DECEMBER 27—DESPICABLE ME (2010) - In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout where Gru plans the biggest heist in the history of the world. Loving all things wicked and armed with an arsenal of weapons, he vanquishes all who stand in his way until he encounters the immense will of three orphaned girls. JANUARY 24—SALT (2010) – Evelyn Salt is a well-respected CIA officer until a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who is Salt?" Starring the sultry Angelina Jolie. Directed by Phillip Noyce. (PG-13, 100 min.)
JANUARY 31—TOP HAT (1935) - Showman Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire) is working for producer Horace Hardwick in London. Jerry demonstrates his new dance steps late one night in Horace's hotel, much to the annoyance of sleeping Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers) below. She goes upstairs to complain and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Complications ensue as identities are mistaken and true love hangs in the balance. Wonderful music and amazing Astaire-Rogers dancing highlight this all-time classic musical. Directed by Mark Sandrich. (Not rated, 81 min.)
FEBRUARY 7— WINTER’S BONE (2010) - The unforgettable Jennifer Lawrence is Ree, a 17 year old who sets out to track down her father. He has put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasion and threats to piece together the truth. Directed by Debra Granik. Also starring John Hawkes. (R, 100 min.)
FEBRUARY 14—THE SOCIAL NETWORK (2010) - Jesse Eisenberg gives a bravura performance as the Harvard sophomore and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg who sits down at his computer one night and comes up with a revolutionary idea – a global social network. Six years and 500 million friends later he is the youngest billionaire in history, but such success is not without complications. Brilliant work from writer Aaron Sorkin and director David Fincher make this an Oscar-worthy achievement. Also starring Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake. (PG-13, 121 min.)

FEBRUARY 28—WAITING FOR SUPERMAN (2010) - The fate of our country won’t be decided on the battlefield, it will be determined in a classroom. This masterful and engrossing documentary follows a group of promising but disadvantaged kids stuck in a failing educational system. Director Davis Guggenheim offers a scathing indictment of that system but he also offers hope that problems can be solved. (PG, 111 min.)
