Pewabic Pottery To Host Contemporary Take On Ancient Teapots
Newest FREE exhibit inspired by the first tea drinkers in Asia and Europe
Pewabic Pottery’s new exhibit, Contemporary Teapots – Ancient Ancestors, begins Jan. 14 with a FREE opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show will feature a variety of pieces from 13 different artists.
Originating over 400 years ago, the art of tea drinking began in China as a ceremonial activity and later spread to Europe and eventually across the globe. Today, these ancient teapots have inspired incredible pieces of art.
“These featured artists have created contemporary pieces both functional and aesthetically appealing,” said Terese Ireland, executive director of Pewabic Pottery. “It’s not often that you can take a piece of art off the shelf and actually use it.”
Each new piece will be shown alongside a picture of its ancient inspiration.
The exhibit is free and open to the public and runs through Mar. 6.
