Do you remember that game from when you were a kid where you had to whisper something to the person next to you and they had to whisper what they thought you said to the person next to them and so on down the line? And at the end the initial statement and the ending one were no where even close to being the same?
Well if you have kids, then this "game" goes on in real life everyday. We parents tell our kids something that we think is really clear and to the point and darn it if they go off and do some stuff that is no where even close to what we told them.
Since my son is now a "tween", I think his brain sometimes gets hijacked by the characters in his video games because I know he is really not listening to me when he is playing those games.
Case in point, I tell my kid to get dressed, go downstairs and put away this breakfast dishes in the sink and take the trash bag sitting by the kitchen door outside to the garbage can. Simple right? I ask "Did you get that son?" He responds "Sure Mom" while still playing that video game. So what does this child of mine do? He gets dressed with his shirt on backwards, goes downstairs and dumps his breakfast dishes (my good plates) in the garbage and then puts the garbage bag in the dining room and goes back upstairs to finish playing his video game. I stand there and look at him until he finally looks up at me smiling from ear to ear like he just successfully performed open heart surgery. And he wonders why I always look upset?
