This week Target has the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V No-Contract Smartphone on sale for $129.99 with a $20 Target Gift Card thrown in for good measure.
This smartphone runs the Android 2.2 operating system and is currently out of stock on the Virgin Mobile website. If you use your Target Red Card to buy this smartphone, the price with tax goes down an extra 5% to $130.76. And if you factor in the $20 gift card, the price goes down to $110.76.
Virgin Mobile smartphones are all the rage because you can get monthly service for only $25 which includes all taxes, 300 minutes and UNLIMITED messaging, email, data and web. Yep, you read that right. $25 a month for 300 voice minutes AND all the texting and data your little smartphone can download off the web.
What's the downside you ask? Well, the service for Virgin Mobile phones is through Sprint Nextel, so we are not really taking about true nationwide coverage. CLICK HERE FOR COVERAGE MAP. In the metro Detroit area, the coverage is very good, but if you look at the coverage map for the Michigan U.P., there is NO coverage. This phone is great for cities where Sprint Nextel has coverage. If you are outside of those areas, you are out of luck.
The bottom line is, if you are in a Sprint Nextel area and don't travel to remote locations, this is a great monthly deal on a smartphone. Otherwise, stick with the Verizon network.
