Can Social Studies be Fun and Exciting? YES!
As the last months of school come to an end, most parents and children are looking forward to the end of school days in June, but not in my house. You see, my son has been at the same school for 7 years and he is now about to leave and go to middle school with a new environment, new teachers, new everything.
My son's current school has always challenged him to do advanced work at least one grade level above where he is - and I want that to continue in the sixth grade. So like most stressed out parents that want only the best for their kids, I am always looking for online educational resources that can help my son stay challenged while having fun, especially in his Social Studies since this subject is where he needs the most help.
As a blogger, I like reading other blogs to get ideas on just about every subject - including education. One new blog that I am now reading is the Studies Weekly Blog which highlights teacher resources, tips and articles about education.
I have read some great stories like how blogging helps kids with their critical thinking and also their keyboard and writing skills - I am sure most of us adult bloggers can attest to that.
I have also read about how to make geography fun by studying the 7 wonders of America (Rocky Mountains, Pacific Coastal Plain, Western Plateau, Atlantic Coastal Plain, Appalachian Region, Interior Plains and the Ozark Highlands) and teacher tips on how to use easy to read and fun social studies lesson plans to help increase reading comprehension.
So go on over and take a look to find some strategies that you can use to help your child learn while making it fun and exciting at the same time.
Enjoy!
