Join a pedal-powered celebration of Detroit and the Detroit Institute of Arts’ (DIA) Inside|Out program on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 9 a.m., beginning at the DIA. Inside|Out features reproductions of works from the museum’s collection located outdoors throughout metro Detroit. The bike tour highlights the 12 installations along the Detroit Riverwalk, Dequindre Cut, and Eastern Market. Riders will savor mechanical, musical and poetic moments along the way.
Registration is FREE, but preregistration is required at http://insideoutride. eventbrite.com/. Helmets are mandatory.
The 8.5 mile tour begins at the museum’s group entrance on John R Street at 9 a.m. and returns to the museum by noon. Riders who want to see the original works of art can pay a discounted museum admission of $5. This also includes a 1 p.m. sneak-peek tour of the exhibition Detroit Revealed: Photographs, 2000–2010 with Nancy Barr, DIA associate curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs.
In conjunction with the bike tour, DTE Energy Foundation, the 2011 sponsor of Inside|Out, is giving away a new bike in its “Lead the Pack” sweepstakes. To enter, go to http://on.fb.me/leadthepack.
Detroit Bikes, Inside Out Literary Arts Project, The Hub of Detroit and Wheelhouse Detroit helped organize the ride.
