TEACHERS: Field Trip Assistance Grants for the DIA still available - NEW DEADLINE 1/13/2012

Target supports Detroit Institute of Arts Field Trips for 8,000 Students

One Hundred schools received grants; limited funds still available

Thanks to a generous grant from Target, 8000 students in grades three through 12 can look forward to a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) early next year. One hundred schools in southeast Michigan that otherwise might not have been able to afford a museum visit will have their admission and transportation costs reimbursed.

“I know we are not alone in expressing our appreciation for Target’s generosity that directly benefits school children,” said Graham W. J. Beal, DIA director. “For many students, this is their first exposure to some of the world’s greatest art, and will, I hope, make them want to come back again.”

There are still some funds available for admission and/or transportation costs for a limited number of self-guided visits to the museum in January, February and March 2012. Grants are available for schools in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties for students in grades three through 12. Teachers need to apply online by Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at www.dia.org/learn/teachers.aspx.

Decisions will be made based on geographic and grade level distribution. Title One schools will receive additional consideration. Applicants will be notified about awards by email the following week. For questions or more information, email studenttours@dia.org.

Enjoy!
