Detroit's own Dwele |
Dwele will take to the stage at 5:45 p.m. ET Friday and fans will be able to experience the local artist’s music as part of Free Prix Day at the Grand Prix. Keeping alive a Grand Prix tradition in Detroit, everyone will be admitted to the Raceway at Belle Isle Park free of charge on Friday.
Born and raised in West Detroit, Dwele – born Andwele Gardner – has released six albums with the latest in 2012 entitled Greater Than One. Some of his soulful hits include “What Profit,” “What’s Not to Love,” “I’m Cheatin” and “Find a Way.” He has also been featured on two Grammy-winning singles with Kanye West, “Power” and “Flashing Lights.” A multi-talented former student of Detroit’s Wayne State University, Dwele is not only a talented singer but he’s an established songwriter, producer and musician as well. After learning to play the piano at age six and adding the trumpet, bass and guitar to his skill set, Dwele recorded his first song, “Rize,” in his bedroom. He has continued to build his career using his jazz, R&B and hip-hop influences to collaborate with some of today’s top artists.
Dwele’s performance will follow a full opening day of track activity featuring practice and qualifying for the IZOD IndyCar Series, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the Pirelli World Challenge Series on the newly-configured 2.3-mile Belle Isle street circuit.
While the action on the track will be fast and furious at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, May 31-June 2, there will be plenty of activities for fans of all ages to enjoy throughout the weekend off the track at the Meijer Family Fun Zone.
