GIVEAWAY: @Energizer wants parents to know the 4 S’s of Coin-size Lithium Battery Safety - ENDS 9/10 (CLOSED)

Lots of home items use coin lithium batteries, like my garage door remote
I'm supporting National Childhood Injury Prevention Week by learning more about Coin Lithium Battery Safety...

Special thanks to Energizer for sponsoring the prize for this giveaway and providing complementary products and promotional items to facilitate this review...

Last week, as I was pulling into my garage, I realized that my garage door opener remote needed a new battery.  When I opened the battery door on the remote, I saw that it took a type battery that I usually don't keep in my home - a coin-size lithium battery.

Coin lithium batteries can be found around most homes in everyday items like my garage door opener remote control, keyless entry devices for cars, flameless candles and even children’s books with sound.

If ingested, these coin-sized lithium batteries can cause serious chemical burns in as little as two hours. Yet in a survey conducted by Energizer, 62% of parents reported being unaware of the risk associated with coin lithium batteries.

In support of National Childhood Injury Prevention Week (September 1-7, 2013), the National Safety Council and Energizer have teamed up to share some important tips every parent should know to help prevent injuries from the ingestion of Coin Lithium batteries to help keep kids safe.

The 4 S’s of Coin Lithium Battery Safety are -

· STORE
devices that use coin lithium batteries out of reach of children

· SECURE
the battery compartments of devices

· SELECT
battery packaging that meets federal guidelines for child resistance, such as Energizer’s coin lithium battery packaging

· SHARE
this information with your friends and family

Energizer led the industry by being the first to voluntarily develop packaging for its 20 millimeter coin lithium batteries that meets the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) strict guidelines for child-resistant packaging. They also developed a national awareness campaign in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide called The Battery Controlled, which works to alert parents and caregivers to the dangers of swallowing coin lithium batteries.

The Challenge:
Can You Open a Coin Lithium Battery Package
without Scissors???

As part of learning more about Coin Lithium Battery Safety, I found out the CPSC has created strict guidelines to determine if a package qualifies as effectively child-resistant by testing the packaging with groups of children who are given 10 minutes to attempt to open the package.

I got to test out the safety packing for myself by attempting to open a package of Energizer Coin Lithium Batteries and a package of Coin Lithium Batteries from a competitor's brand. I was able to tear open the competitor's packaging in about 5 seconds flat, just using my hands. Though I tried to rip, bend, and tear apart the packaging for the Energizer Coin Lithium batteries (I even used my teeth), I was only able to get the package open using scissors.

Identifying ways its products can help keep families safe is part of the Energizer commitment to designing its products with people in mind and investing in programs that have a positive impact on the world. that’s positivenergy™

Take Lithium Coin Battery Safety Seriously!!!
