SEPTEMBER 9—42 (2013) - In 1946, Jackie Robinson is a Negro League baseball player who never takes racism lying down. Branch Rickey is a Major League team executive with a bold idea. To that end, Rickey recruits Robinson to break the unspoken color line as the first modern African-American Major League player. As both anticipate, this proves a major challenge for Robinson and his family as they endure unrelenting racist hostility on and off the field, from player and fan alike. As Jackie struggles against his nature to endure such abuse without complaint, he finds allies and hope where he least expects it. Starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford. (Rated PG-13, 128 min.)

SEPTEMBER 16—AMOUR (2012) - Georges and Anne have known a lifetime of love within their intimate marriage. Though their bond has survived time's test, it's about to meet its greatest challenge as Anne suffers a debilitating stroke, leaving the couple to struggle through changes that will further test the bounds of their commitment. Nominated for five 2012 Academy Awards and winner of Best Foreign Language Film. In French with English subtitles. (Rated PG-13, 127 min.)

SEPTEMBER 23—THE GREAT GASBY (2013)- Would-be writer Nick Carraway leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, landing next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband Tom Buchanan. Nick is slowly drawn into the captivating world of the super rich and their illusions, loves, deceits and tragedies. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel is brought to dizzying life by director Baz Luhrmann. (Rated PG-13, 142 min.)

SEPTEMBER 30—IRON MAN 3 (2013) - When Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) finds his entire world reduced to rubble, he must use all his ingenuity to survive, destroy his enemy (a mysterious terrorist known as the Mandarin) and somehow protect those he loves. But a soul-searching question haunts him: Does the man make the suit…or does the suit make the man? Amazing special effects highlight one of the biggest hits of the year! (Rated PG-13, 135 min.)

OCTOBER 7—ROOM 237 (2013) - In 1980, Stanley Kubrick released his masterpiece of modern horror, The Shining. Over 30 years later, audiences, film fanatics and scholars alike are still struggling to understand its hidden meanings. Rodney Ascher's documentary fuses fact and fiction through interviews with both fans and critics, creating a kaleidoscopic deconstruction of Kubrick's still-controversial classic. (Not Rated, 102 min.)

OCTOBER 14—KORAN BY HEART (2011) - SPECIAL PRESENTATION - The “Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys, Bridging Cultures” program presents this touching story of two boys from Senegal and Tajikistan, and a little girl from Maldives who go head-to-head with kids nearly twice their age in the pronunciation, recitation and perfected memorization of the Qur'an. Even as their own future hangs in the balance, they are caught between fundamentalist and moderate visions of Islam. (Not Rated, 80 min.)

OCTOBER 21—ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948) - Bud Abbott and Lou Costello play porters who encounter Dracula, the Wolfman and the Frankenstein monster in a madcap mix of comedy and Universal horror legends. (Not Rated, 83 min.)

OCTOBER 28—THE HAUNTING (1963) - Widely regarded as one of the greatest haunted house movies ever made, The Haunting tells the story of a chosen group of people out to solve the supernatural mystery of Hill House. The film relies on suggestion and suspense to create a palpable atmosphere of dread and terror. (Not Rated, 112 min.)

NOVEMBER 4—STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS (2013) - When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find that an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction. (Rated PG-13, 132 min.)

NOVEMBER 11—NO PROGRAM—VETERANS DAY HOLIDAY

NOVEMBER 18—THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962) - After President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963 (fifty years ago this month), star Frank Sinatra allegedly pulled this tale of brainwashing and political assassination from circulation, and it remained largely unseen for many years until the late 1980s, when it was re-discovered and widely proclaimed a classic. Sinatra stars as a former Korean War POW who slowly unravels a Communist assassination plot involving one of his fellow captives. Also starring Laurence Harvey and Angela Lansbury. (Not Rated, 126 min.)

NOVEMBER 25—MARY POPPINS (1964) - There is only one word that comes close to accurately describing the enchanting Mary Poppins: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Julie Andrews won an Oscar as the world's most magically idealized nanny ("practically perfect in every way," and complete with lighter-than-air umbrella), and Dick Van Dyke is her clownishly charming beau, Bert the chimney sweep. Featuring the songs "A Spoonful of Sugar,” "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and the touchingly melancholy "Feed the Birds.” A wonderful way for the entire family to begin the holiday week! (Rated G, 139 min.)

Enjoy!
