My Dad with my son, circa 2000...two total cuties :) |
Every year, I never know what to get my Dad for Father's Day. I hate to just give him cash - although, like me, he does love money :)
So each year, I sit down and think about the things he loves to do and try to match his gift to his personality, which is hard because this is the man that says that he has everything that he needs. And at ninety years old, my Dad probably does feel like he has seen and done it all.
One of the things that my Dad has always loved is technology, especially mobile phones. Even at his age, my Dad is always on the go. He is a people person and loves to be where the action is so he is usually out and about from early morning to night fall 7 days a week.
To keep in contact while on the go, my Dad has owned a mobile phone for well over 15 years, well before they became popular. But his current flip phone has seen better days. I think he would find it exciting to try out a new smartphone, but I know that the phone would need to be simple to use so that he does not get frustrated. And even though I want to buy him a very nice smartphone, I would need to find him one that is not be too expensive since he would not be happy if a spent a lot of money.

Last year I had the pleasure of reviewing the Walmart Family Mobile Plan so I know that Walmart sells smartphones that go along with their low priced mobile plan that range in price from only $50 to just under $500.
Since I review a lot of smartphones, when a co-worker asked me for advice as to which smartphone I thought he should get his retirement age mom who had never used a smartphone, I suggested that he buy her the no-contract Nokia Lumia 521 smartphone. He later thanked me because his mother L-O-V-E-S her Nokia Lumia and uses it all the time.
The Nokia Lumia 521 is a Windows OS smartphone with a tile interface that makes learning how to use it a breeze and it retails for the low, low price of only $99.98 at Walmart. So I think you know which smartphone a think would be perfect for my Dad for Father's Day :)
The Nokia Lumia 521 has some awesome features for a device that retails for under $100, including -
- 8GB of internal memory, expanded to 64GB with its memory card slot
- 5MP rear auto focus camera and a front camera so that you can take photos and Skype
- Removable 1430mAh battery, which means you can buy a 2nd battery for less that $5 so this smartphone will keep you connected all day while on the go
- easy integration with Xbox, Windows 8 and SkyDrive so you can play games and access your photos and videos while on the go
