The GM Foundation is offering deserving students up to $25,000 each for their education (including tuition, books, housing, etc.) and it can be renewed every year.
This is the fifth year Buick Achievers scholarships will be awarded to students who excel in the classroom and give back to their communities.
Special consideration is given to students who are female, minorities, first-generation college students, military veterans and military dependents.
To be eligible for the program, high school seniors or current undergraduate students must be seeking a college degree in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), or other eligible fields related to the automotive industry.
The 50 recipients of the Buick Achievers National Scholarship will receive an award of up to $25,000 per year, available for four years, and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program.
The scholarships can be used toward the total cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses, less other gift aid known at the time of application (scholarships, grants and other awards that do not have to be paid back).
“Our country is in need of STEM grads, as the focus on innovation and technology continues to sharpen,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. “Through the Buick Achievers Scholarship program, we are helping shape the next generation of leaders and innovators for the automotive industry and other sectors that are so important to the future of our country.”
For Buick Achiever, Kettering University alumnus and GM employee Frisco Pullom, this scholarship provided the freedom to focus on his education.
“My first semester after receiving scholarship funds, I was able to remove work and fundraising from my schedule, and I made the dean’s list for the first time in my academic career,” said Pullom. “After graduation, I was able to secure a position with General Motors as a value chain engineer.”
Since its inception in 2011, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program has awarded more than $27 million in scholarships to 3,400 students. This year, the program will award 50 scholarships of up to $25,000 per year, renewable for up to four years or five years for qualified engineering programs.
Students from the United States and Puerto Rico are eligible.
The application period for this scholarship is open through February 27th. Info at https://buickachievers.scholarshipamerica.org
