McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour will kick off its concert series in Detroit with a FREE night of inspiration and joyful song on Wednesday, May 13th at Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. Seven Mile Rd., Detroit.

Some of gospel music’s biggest acts have partnered with McDonald’s to give back to communities across the nation through the 14-city concert series. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the soul-stirring singing starts at 7 p.m.

Hosting the tour is Stellar-nominated artist and radio personality Lonnie Hunter. Joining him on stage will be music director and songwriter Donald Lawrence, vocal powerhouse Yolanda Adams, evangelist and the “Rose of Gospel” Dorinda Clark-Cole, the incomparable choral-master Ricky Dillard, urban inspirational artist DeWayne Woods, Stellar Award nominee and BET’s Sunday Best season six winner Tasha Page-Lockhart and Christian comedienne Small Fire.


Back for its ninth year, McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour focuses on the importance of giving back to the community by supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). In recognition of the Charity’s 41st anniversary, this year concertgoers will have the opportunity to learn about RMHC and the important role it plays in helping families heal and thrive in their local community – and worldwide. Attendees also will be encouraged to support the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit by donating to help local families served by the charity.

“The McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel tour is a wonderful event that features the joy of gospel music while showcasing some of the talented musicians who share Detroit’s gospel roots,” said Jon Campbell, McDonald’s restaurant owner. “We are proud that this meaningful event will raise awareness and funds for McDonald’s namesake charity, the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit.”

The cross-country concert series will kick off May 13 and run through October 17, making stops in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Greensboro, Houston, Indianapolis, Jackson, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Raleigh, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour is an extension of the brand’s 365Black platform, an initiative that celebrates the pride, heritage, and achievements of African-Americans year round.

General Summary

Business Manager/Grant Accountant

Job Description: MMAP, Inc. (Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program), a 501c3 non-profit organization, seeks a Business Manager/Grant Accountant with experience in Federal Grants. This position provides fiscal and administrative support services for total grant programs exceeding $2 million annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Responsibilities: This position will provide assistance on all aspects of award management as applicable to each grant. In particular, this position will provide high-level financial, accounting and administrative support for our current grants, program staff and consultants.

Requirements: 3-5 years of professional experience as a Grant Accountant or similar role, preferably in a non-profit environment. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is preferred. Parent Coach (Detroit)
Parent Coaches will have a case load of 50 families and be responsible for implementing programming using the peer-to-peer service delivery model to engage parents of children ages 0-5 to prepare them to school ready.

Conducts and implement lesson plans, parent workshops and trainings that promote parent teaching strategies, including: modeling reading, play, parent/child interactions, storytelling techniques and others that can be done at home
Maintain confidentiality
Maintain all paperwork and notes for a case load for at least 50 families
Implement lesson plans and conduct monthly play group opportunities that demonstrate fun learning activities that can be done in the home
Develop and prepare incentives for parents and children in the Pathway to Literacy program that may include birthday, holiday, and summer learning gift packets
Conduct home visits with parents in the Pathway to Literacy program
Recommend wrap around services to parents that may need additional services
Follow up on any parental referral requests to assist parents
Enroll parents in the Imagination Library Program
Assist coordinate and prepare for large events that would include 200 families
Assist with outreach to parents and children for upcoming events
Ensure evaluation tools are completed
Submit weekly and monthly reports using the EDI model and format developed by supervisor

FREE Comerica Java & Jazz Concert Series at Detroit Main Library continues on 5/19 with jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins

FREE concert series celebrates its 15th season with local musicians

Comerica Bank has partnered with the Detroit Public Library to present the FREE Comerica Java & Jazz: A Coffee House Series for the 15th consecutive year.

The concert series brings world-renowned jazz musicians to Detroit for music fans to enjoy FREE of charge.

“We’re pleased to bring back Java & Jazz for the 15th year and honored to be a part of a program that entertained Metro Detroiters for more than a decade,” said Patricia McCann, vice president and national civic affairs manager, Comerica Bank. “The success of Comerica’s longstanding partnership with The Detroit Public Library is a testament to the continuing popularity and longstanding tradition of Detroit’s unique jazz sound.”

The FREE concerts will be held on the third Tuesday of every month from March through July at the Detroit Public Library, Friends Auditorium located at 5201 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48202.
