MARCH 14—THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (1966) - 50th Anniversary - “For three men the Civil War wasn’t hell. It was practice.” A classic “spaghetti western” featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach about a bounty hunting scam that joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in confederate gold buried in a remote cemetery. This, the third film directed by Sergio Leone in the Dollars Trilogy, which includes A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965) is often voted the best western film of all time! MARCH 21 — ROBIN HOOD (2010) - In this retelling of the beloved English folk-legend, we find Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) returning home from the crusades with his men-at-arms Will Scarlett, Alan-a-Dale and Little John. Upon arrival in Nottingham, Robin agrees to pose as the late Sir Robert of Locksley, the husband of Marian (Cate Blanchett) in an effort to protect Locksley’s land from being seized by the crown. In exchange for this deception, Robin receives knowledge of his personal history and his fate. Robin, Marion and his merry men confront corruption, foreign espionage and intrigue which leads to an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. APRIL 4—STEVE JOBS (2015) - Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution, to paint a portrait of the man at its epicenter. The story unfolds backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac. Directed by Danny Boyle and starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen. APRIL 11—MANHUNTER (1986) - Former FBI profiler Will Graham returns to service to pursue a deranged serial murderer named by the media "the Tooth Fairy.” This film, directed by Michael Mann is considered the prequel to the better known The Silence of the Lambs. Stars: William Petersen, Kim Greist, Joan Allen. (Rated R. 119 min.)
APRIL 18—THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991) - 25th Anniversary - A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims. This film was only the third film (the other two being It Happened One Night and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) to win Academy Awards in all the top five categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Adapted Screenplay. Stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Lawrence A. Bonney. (Rated R. 118 min.)
APRIL 25—CRIMSON PEAK (2015) - In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds and remembers. (Rated R. 119 mins.)
MAY 2—MACBETH (2015) - Macbeth, a Thane of Scotland, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself. (Rated R. 113 min.)
MAY 9— THE MARTIAN (2015) - During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Based on a book by Andy Weir and directed by Ridley Scott. MAY 16—TRUMBO (2015) - The successful career of 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) comes to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs. TRUMBO tells the story of his fight against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over words and freedom, which entangled everyone in Hollywood from Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger. MAY 23—ROCK THE KASBAH (2015) - A down-on-his-luck music manager (Bill Murray) discovers a teenage girl with an extraordinary voice while on a music tour in Afghanistan and takes her to Kabul to compete on the popular television show, Afghan Star. (Rated R. 106 min.)
